We¡¯d like to introduce a special friend to you¡ªPing Wu (Î䯼), a recent graduate of UCLA who also served on the CSSA-UCLA Committee, a bright, blossoming young girl in her pursuit of happiness, celebrating life and trying to fulfill her dreams.
But her life took a tragic turn two days before this past Christmas: the doctors informed her that she has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), type IV, an unanticipated diagnosis that would forever change her life, and the lives of many others. We are still in shock, in disbelief, and we would rather think all of this is just a bad dream.
Denial would not lead her to recovery, and we must face hard truths. Ping is determined to fight her illness and conquer it! We have been so touched by her bravery, optimism, determination, courage, and perseverance. Each time when we visit her, despite her battered body due to chemotherapy and other procedures, she is always the storyteller, calmly and graciously narrating all the anecdotes about her diagnosis and treatment procedures, oftentimes even cracking jokes! What a brave soul she is!
Yet probably the biggest challenge Ping faces is her financial situation¡ªleukemia treatments are extremely costly even with partial insurance coverage, not to mention that she is just a recent graduate with little savings to afford the long-term treatments. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated at this moment. Your donations will ensure the continuation of her necessary treatments and help pay for living expenses for her and her mom who has just flown into the US from China. Donations can be made

Today, all of us¡ªCSSA-UCLA Committee members¡ªare dedicating ourselves to help and support Ping, and we earnestly hope you will offer her a helping hand too. In helping, we recognize a simple but powerful truth: we need each other. And we must care for one another.
In the depth of winter, a spring can be reborn. And we call it "THE AUDACITY OF HOPE."
Sincerely,
